What to expect:
Weather wise, Dullstroom is in full spring swing. Temperatures are sneaking up but water temperatures are still in the zone for good trout flyfishing. The long term weather forecast is for warmer weather with no cold fronts or rain expected in the next week or so. However, Dullstroom can experience 4 seasons in one day, so make sure you pack in some rain jackets as the first rains are just around the corner. What else to remember? Three words. Sunblock, sunblock and sunblock!
How to fish:
The tail end of the spawning season is upon us (often referred to as the post spawn). This means that the really bright flies can be put aside for a while, yet not completely ignored. If you want to catch fish this time of the year switch to an intermediate line with a nasty looking, bulky fly on the end of your leader. Hens and cocks will be replenishing all their lost energy during this period and will be looking to do it quickly with protein high meals like baitfish, tadpoles and big dragonfly nymphs. Remember to limit your catch, not catch your limit.
Fish hard!
