What to expect:
Warmer weather for the most part is the order of the day. Be forewarned that it’s almost certain that there’ll be PM thundershowers on most days. DON’T even think about fishing when the weather is stirring unless you want to find out for yourself whether there is life after death! Generally the conditions are fairly favourable for fishing with little wind around and not too many cold fronts to speak of.
How to fish:
As the old adage states, the best fishing is when the shadows are longest. Be on the water at sunrise and sunset for optimum results. Start and end your day with a floating line, long leader and small nymphs like those mentioned above. When conditions dictate, switch over to small emergers or natural dries when the fish are feeding on or just below the surface. For the warmer periods of the day pull out the trusty old inter or sinking line and fish bigger flies with a lot of movement. Stick to natural colours like brown, olive and black. Fish smart!
