- TOOLS OF THE DRY FLY TRADE -

With the water finally beginning to cool, dry fly action for both trout and yellows should start to pick up, peaking around mid-April all things considered.

Some days the fish are really on, and some days they’re being picky. It’s the days like the latter where your watercraft could help net you a fish or two more than your mates by converting some of those last minute refusals into eats.

Have a look at what we reach for when the dry fly bite gets technical:

  1. Arrow tip scissors to fine tune your fly and how it’s riding on the water. Our own well priced, in-house brand, complete with protective tubing to prevent heinous injury, is recommended.
  2. The full complement of tungsten putty, degreaser and floatant. Given how many dry flies feature fine hackle or CDC, we choose to simplify and go with Lochsa for everything that needs to float - regular floatant is a great way to ruin a beautiful CDC dry in a hurry! SHOP HERE.
  3. Tippet rings in size you find manageable.
Tip - they’re a great place to secure a tiny piece of tungsten putty to help sink your leader.
Top tip - tie the tippet ring on before you take it off the clip.
Pro-level top tip - make sure you tie the ring on that’s closest to the end of the clip…

- STREAMSIDE GEAR & CONNECTIONS -

You’ve got your favorite vest or pack, and you’ve no doubt got a few handy stream-side tools to make both your and your quarry’s day a little easier. How do you make sure your time on the water ends with the same number of tools that you started with?

That’s where items such as zingers and lanyards come into the picture. We’ve got many great options in store that we’ve used for years locally and abroad, but if you’re in need of a slightly beefier connection take a look at this setup... get it here
