Anyone who has tied a Beast Fleye knows the challenge of building clean, consistent hollow ties on a mono extension. For me, the biggest hurdle was always finding the right bucktail. Those soft, long-haired tails that hollow-tie effortlessly can feel like mythical creatures, especially where I live.
Like many tiers, I experimented with ways to build Beast Fleyes using more readily available bucktail. No matter what I tried, I kept running into the same problem. Stiffer bucktail would refuse to form a neat hollow tie, flaring unpredictably and ruining the profile of the fly.
That's where the Beast Cheat Cones come in.
Designed specifically for tying Beast-style flies on mono extensions, these angled cones replace the traditional thread dam while providing enough support to tame and hold bucktail in the perfect hollow position. They're strong enough to control even stubborn hair, yet light enough that they add virtually no weight to the finished fly.
The result is a cleaner profile, greater consistency, and the ability to create large, beautifully tapered baitfish patterns without relying on premium bucktail.
The cones work on 40 lb to 100 lb mono, although 60 lb to 80 lb mono has proven to be the sweet spot for most applications.
