Arguably one of the most effective flies of modern day fishing in the UK It is typically used all year round on reservoirs or smaller stillwaters and on any density of flyline, from a floater to a fast sinker.
Like the Buzzer, in South Africa the ‘Booby’ fly pattern isn’t fished as much as in the UK, however, it is still a very effective fly and is used excessively? in the competition community. Typically, the way a Booby is fished is with with one to two other flies, mainly on a sinking line. The placement varies from point to top dropper depending on how you plan on fishing the pattern and with what flies.
Not really designed to look like anything in particular, the thing that makes this pattern work are the two foam eyes and how they contribute to the unique movement of this fly in the water.
